Pythagorean Theorem Project

Pythagorean History
History
Pythagoras was born in approximately 569 BC in Samos, Greece. He loved to learn and travel, and founded a school called the Semicircle, dedicated to the study of philosophy and religion. Pythagoreans, as his followers were called, believed that all things were numbers and the soul could be purified through mathematics and music. Read more... or Listen to History Lesson here.

Layout of Site
We have designed this site to explore first, finding retangles and squares around the classroom or school to derive relationships between the sides of embedded triangles. Then we have several Learn activities and several to extend the experience in using the theorem to solve real world problems. In planning instruction, we envision 2 days or learning periods for the Explore phase, 1 day for Learn and Extend, and 1 day for the Evaluate phase.
Extend and Evaluate
As a close to our lesson, we invite you to blog / vlog about your experience, noting two things you learned, and one thing you would like to teach someone else.
Please feel free to send us your comments!
To get started, here is an animation about the pythagorean theorem and the right triangles it describes the relationship for.
